Our Pigs

Slow grown heritage Tamworths

Why the Tamworth Pig?

How could you not after looking at the three little pigs who started it all.

When our research into hardy livestock breeds began, one website we found was the rare breeds trust of australia: https://rarebreedstrust.com.au/

Their aim of maintaining diversity and protecting unique characteristics of heritage livestock breeds for future generations seems like a worthwhile mission. The tamworth pig is one of three mentioned in their critical breed list. (Which of course causes difficulties in obtaining pigs). Therefore we would like to give thanks to all the farmers who continue the production of rare livestock breeds. Never underestimate your commitment in inspiring the next generation of farmers.

No longer deemed worthwhile by commercial piggeries due to their slow growing nature we could see the benefits as a small family farm.

Their docile personality,

their gorgeous orange coat suitable for free range sun tanning

and their ability to raise young naturally.

The benefit of the bacon breed Tamworth is thriving on low-energy foods. This slow grown process also means improved eating and taste quality.

Free range, pasture raised pigs

Letting pigs do what pigs do best!

Have you ever seen a free range pig? Its the most beautiful thing. Digging for bugs (or olives that fall off the trees), sun tanning, lazying around in bed like its a Sunday morning or getting the "zoomies".

Having the ability to raise animals in a natural setting is bliss.

This means no tail docking, no teeth clipping, and

no farrowing cages!

Our pigs are rotated as required through land that needs clearing, saving us labour intensive work and providing them with forage.

As well as foraging for food our pigs are provided our own home grown grain, fermented so their food is digested better.
